About KanemCare
Kanem is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to advocating for and empowering vulnerable children and women in underserved communities. Through education, vocational training, and protection from exploitative labor and gender-based violence, we work to create safer, more equitable futures. Our efforts focus on expanding access to literacy and education and protecting the rights of young girls and young mothers. We also deliver transformative skill-building programs that equip them with the tools to lead independent, dignified lives.
A Brief On Our Initiative
In Nigeria, over 10 million children are out of school, with girls facing the greatest barriers to accessing education (UNICEF, 2020). Around 15 million children are engaged in child labor, limiting their development and future opportunities (ILO, 2020). In addition, 1 in 3 Nigerian women aged 15-49 has experienced physical or sexual violence (NDHS, 2018) highlighting the urgent need to protect and empower women and girls.
At Kanem Care and Support Initiative, our work directly supports the Sustainable Development Goals. We focus on empowering vulnerable children and women in underserved Nigerian communities through inclusive, youth-led, and community-driven solutions.
